Reid, Dillon show good form
- anto @ 17:43
Last weekend seen 2 races promoted by Balbriggan CC. The Ben MCKenna Memorial was the main event and saw Paul Reid do an excellent ride to finish 10th on a very tough circuit. John Dillon performed very well to take 2nd in the B race.On Saturday evening Anto made a good debut in the Harry Reynolds memorial with Srdjan providing solid support. Despite infiltrating several breaks nothing materialised. A good debut none the less.

Just got a mail from Dermot Dignam saying a place is available so the Ravens will again be riding the Rás this year. Team is still to be confirmed but I am confident that we will have 5 riders by the last week of May.

Season going well for the Ravens!
- anto @ 18:19
Despite no podium places for the Ravens things are going quite well. All of the guys who are racing are finishing in the front group in all of the race. A number of riders still have to debut and this should see furtherimprovements all round

Cycleways Cup
- anto @ 10:27
No joy for the Ravens in the Cycleways cup yesterday in Navan. Eugene showed well making it into the break but lost contact half way round the 14 mile lap. Johnny Dillon back from Spain got into the chasing group but these were brought back on the run into the finish. Greg Swinand won from Baker......

The Foreign Legion
- anto @ 16:58
The Ravens has had an influx of new riders over the course of the winter. There is an exotic mix of nationalities now which requires multilingual directions........Srdjan Stojanovic (Austria) joined the club and has taken out a licence. Srdjan has a Triathlon background but wants to concentrate on the bike for a while. Good performances in the Christmas races and the preseason race show he wont have a problem adaptiong to big bunch racing. Frederik Jacques (Belgium) has been showing good form over the past few weeks. Freddy is a B and should have no problem moving up to A. At 59kg the hills are where he excels. The Lizard (Hungary) I will leave this one until later Stuart Haughney (Ireland) is new to the sport. As a C rider Stuart should get good form as he races more. He should be a good rider for the hills also.
Sick CC!!!
- anto @ 16:48
The ravens were decimated with the flu during the last few weeks. Added to this Geoff had a tumble which required a stay in Hospital and an operation. He is well on his way to recovery.Berni got the flu and also had a visit to casualty. A suspected heart problem turned out to be nothing but a bad chest infection. Kieran Keane got the flu after Christmas and missed 5 weeks of training. He is trying to prepare well to regain the good form that he had last year.

Pres Season Race Sunday 27th Feb. - results
- ian @ 09:41
1. Eugene Murtagh (Ravens CRT) 2. Brian Keane (Dublin Wheelers) 3. Ciaran Cassidy (Usher IRC) 4. Graham Thomas (Ravens CRT)The Ravens dominated this prestigious interclub race by placing 4 men in the front group at the end of a demanding 39 mile race run off in freezing temperatures. The whole race came together on the last lap, everybody knew the decisive moment was coming on the dreaded Culmullen hill. True to form Keane attacked from the bottom with eugene, Noel and Anto making the selection. However, Anto dropped back going over the top of the hill but chased hard in the road. On the run in he was joined by Graham and Taaffe (Dub Whls) who tried hard but was able to contribute very little. Eugene had attacked and taken Keane with him and beat him easily in the sprint. Meanwhile Graham and ANto fought their way upto the remainder of the group just as the sprint started. Graham had enough reserves to take 4th in the gallop. Post Race Quotes "Today I felt good all the way through. I was never in trouble and felt I could go away at any time. Brian was strong but I didnt envisage any problems in the sprint and that is how it turned out. I hope to get some good results early on" Eugene "I have no power on the hills but on the flat I feel very strong. I am very happy with 4th" Graham Thomas

Ian Paine third in Batterstown GP, 6th March
- ian @ 14:20
Continuing Ravens excellent start to the 2004 season Ian Paine took third place in the Batterstown GP, with Noel McGlynn in fifth. Clearly embarassed by last week, the 1st cat group made up the handicap to the 2nd cat group within the first 5 miles. A little before the Warrenstown drag on the first lap a group of around 16 formed, including four Ravens - Ian, Noel, Eugene Murtagh and Graham Thomas. This group moved steadily clear from a lethargic 1/2 cat bunch. The junction with the 3/J/V/W group was made just after the start of the third and final lap. On the final run back to Batterstown Ian escaped in a group of three (unsurprisingly was not able to trouble Bracken in the final sprint), with Noel also clipping away on his own in the final miles.1. Noel Maloney third in Cycleways Cup, Navan, February 29th
- ian @ 14:27
"young" Noel was an excellent third in the season opener on Sunday. On a sunny but very cold day a large break went from the 'B' group inside the opening 10 miles and three riders stayed 28 seconds clear of chasing group of around 25 riders. Completing a solid day for the Ravens were Graham Thomas and Kieran Keane sprinting home in 7th and 8th, with Noel McGlynn and Ian Paine also in this second group.1, Sean Bracken (Usher IRC) 56 miles in 2:23:18 2, S. Gray (Harps CC) @ 13secs 3, N. Maloney (Ravens) @ st ... 7, G. Thomas (Ravens) @ 28secs 8, K. Keane (Ravens) @ st

Keith Daly wins TGP Duane Delaney Memorial
- dave @ 00:45
50 riders fought out the Duane Delaney Memorial on a windy and dark evening. The race was held over six laps of the Boot Inn circuit, and the Vets/Juniors/Ladies/3rd Cats were given a 5 handicap. After taking the prime at the end of lap 3, Sean Bracken was joined by junior Keith Daly, and the two quickly put around half a minute into the chasers. Disorganisation in the 1st and 2nd cat group added to their advantage, with Daly taking the sprint from Bracken, with Ronnie Brannigan best of the rest. T.G.P. Ravens/DWCC InterClub League Results Race 6, May 22 2003, Clonee-Dunboyne1. Eugene Murtagh (Ravens)(10) 2. Anto Moran (Ravens)(9) 3. Ger Madden (IMBRC)(8) 4. Karl Gallagher (DPC-Garda)(7) 5. John Moran (Ravens)(6) 6. Jimmy Lally (DWCC)(5)
There were 2 decent size groups, with about 12 or so in each. Out the road, turn right at the sheds, into Dunsany, across the main road, over to Dorey’s, left at the top and in to finish. We had a gap of 3.15, it was very windy, mostly head but some cross – we only got a tail in the last 3 or 4 miles. Scratch only caught us with about 2 miles to go, Anto led out the sprint, Eugene got his wheel and came past with Ger Madden and Karl Gallagher, I couldn’t get on but held on for 5th. Eugene sprinted irregularly but there was no protest so result stands. - John Moran (Ravens)
